Our Journey
2015
Helios acquired Starsight Nigeria Limited assets, rebranding the company as Starsight Power Utility Limited. This period marked the beginning of a transformative journey with Helios injecting capital and human resources to kickstart a 30-site pilot project.
2017
A significant milestone was achieved with AIIM and Helios spearheading a $30 million investment round, enabling Starsight to launch projects across 35 states in Nigeria.
2019
Starsight's growth trajectory continued, reaching 320 operational sites. We also secured a $10 million facility from Norfund and Finnfund, alongside a $40 million capital budget for the year.
2020
With further substantial capital injections from AIIM and Helios, Starsight embarked on geographical and vertical expansion, marking its entry into Ghana with 12.5 MW of contracted and pipeline capacity.
2021
We secured a $9 million debt facility from Chapel Hill Denham and received a second tranche of financing from Norfund/Finnfund ($10 million). Our expansion continued, reaching 500 sites and extending our footprint into Kenya and Uganda with over 28MWp of pipeline capacity for execution.
2023
A landmark year as Starsight Energy merged with Solar Africa, creating a powerhouse spanning Eastern, Southern, and Western Africa. The merged entity, supported by AIIM and Helios, boasted over 220MW of operated and contracted generation capacity, 40MWh of battery storage, and an ambitious pipeline exceeding 1GW.
