Lagos, Nigeria – May 2025 – Starsight Energy, a leading energy-as-a-service and cooling solutions provider in Africa, is proud to announce its support for West Africa Container Terminal (WACT)-APM Terminals Nigeria’s CSR effort in deploying solar energy solutions to the Mode Primary Health Care Centres located in Onne, Eleme LGA and Ogu in Ogu/Bolo LGA both in Rivers State.
Aimed at enhancing healthcare services in the community of Onne and Ogu. Starsight Energy’s involvement in this project is motivated by a genuine commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and a desire to foster meaningful collaboration that benefits local communities. By joining forces with WACT-APM Terminals Nigeria, we are stepping beyond our role as a clean energy provider and embracing the opportunity to contribute to the critical mission of delivering healthcare services to those in need. This partnership aligns seamlessly with our organisational objective to ensure that clean energy solutions contribute to broader social and environmental goals.
Through this partnership, Starsight Energy has successfully set up a solar capacity of 13.2 kWp along with a 20-kWh lithium-ion battery at the two healthcare centres. This cutting-edge solar energy system presents multiple benefits that will greatly improve the provision of vital healthcare services. By delivering a dependable power source, this installation guarantees that important medical equipment functions smoothly without disruptions, thereby enhancing patient care and safety for the community. This initiative is expected to yield significant long-term savings, and the shift to solar energy decreases noise and air pollution. Environmentally, each project is expected to yield annual carbon savings of approximately 33 tonnes, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable community and environment.
The Chief Executive Officer of APM Terminals Nigeria, Frederik Klinke, said, ‘’This kind of programme is very much at the core of what we stand for as a company. While our business is handling containers and facilitating trade, we see ourselves as partners with the community and government where we operate. This initiative reflects our desire to give back and be seen as an integral part of the communities we serve. If we can raise the general health of the people around us, especially women, we empower communities economically. This solar project is a pilot, and we anticipate scaling up such initiatives to create a broader impact in the society.’’
The Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, Prof. Kinikanwo Green, represented by the Director of Medical Services, Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, Dr. Okachi Chukwuma said, ‘’This solar power installation is the most critical need for this facility. With this system, the Nurses and Doctors will now work effectively.’
Speaking on the collaboration, Paul Van Zijl – Group Chief Executive Officer, Starsight Energy Africa Group stated, “This specific partnership with WACT-APM Terminals Nigeria, and collaboration with the wider APM Terminals operations in Nigeria, serves as a benchmark for CSR initiatives, and we are proud to have delivered alongside WACT-APM Terminals Nigeria. This joint initiative will play a pivotal role in enhancing social services and promoting sustainability for the communities around them. A journey always starts with a one step, even if it is a small step, and it is up to each and all of us to fulfil our corporate responsibility by making a change and taking that first step.”
